Mad
Max Gibson's Passion is not consistent with the teachings of Christ.
It is the height of irony that a man who has devoted his entire
life to propagating violence in movies is now an authority on Jesus.
Focusing on the barbaric Roman justice system is a distraction from
the true message of Christ. Peace, love and compassion were the
overwhelming theme of the teachings of Christ. The Jewish temple
system, corrupted by the immense wealth the high priests had extracted
from mostly the poor, was the main target of Christ's anger. More
than anything else, Christ himself brought on his fate by presenting
a direct challenge to the authorities of his time, thus provoking
his arrest, conviction and execution.
The Romans were
the true killers of Christ and the Temple Elders were coconspirators.
The first thing Jesus did when he got to Jerusalem was to violently
drive the moneychangers from the temple. This is one of the few
times that Jesus actually "lost it". He always vehemently attacked
the rich who preyed upon the poor. Mel Gibson, Campus Crusade for
Christ, and other groups will focus on the themes that do well at
the box office for fun and profit. Blood and guts sell tickets,
the Romans knew this all to well. This movie looks like "Gladiator"
meets "The Ten Commandments".
The passion
evokes such a negative image. I can't imagine how anyone would want
to dwell on such things. Aside from being nothing more than big
budget sadomasochistic pornography, the only other possible motivation
for making a depressing film like this, is money. I can't wait for
Mr. Gibson's next movie about the Sermon on the Mount, but I won't
hold my breath. I can just imagine the pitch; a movie about a Rabbi
who goes around teaching under privileged people how to live a happy
life, no matter what ails them. "Won't put the butts in the seats,
you know".
What about the
children? This is an "R" rated film, with gratuitous and prurient
violence. Yet many so-called Christians think nothing of abusing
their children by exposing them to this horrible film!
What about the
mentally ill? Millions of antidepressant users will be subjected
to unnecessary trauma that this movie will create. I can't see how
this film could be recommended for anyone with even the mildest
case of anxiety or depression.
I hope the
wealthy producers and promoters of this film get sued for cost of
all the increased drug use, counseling and therapy that will be
necessary after this. Lawsuits are a minor punishment in light of
the way Jesus dealt with the greedy moneychangers, who also preyed
on the weakest members of society. I believe a horsewhipping may
be in order!
AD 1973
THE MOVIE
This film is
the first of three films that chronicle the fictional lives of unrelated
people that are unknowingly connected to each other by the events
surrounding the hypothetical rapture of the church, in the year
1973. This movie is a lighthearted retrospect of how a turbulent
time in history, spawned a revival of a centuries old religious
archetype. It follows the lives of fictional character's, Johnny
Santino (a young song writer) and Molly Stevens (a research doctor),
from the rapture in 1973, through the 1980's.
A.D.1973 takes
an unorthodox approach to the interpretation of scriptures relating
to the second coming of Christ. It is somewhat irreverent is it's
depiction of the rather unsavory characters, who are involved in
schemes that seek to profit from the church. There is some profanity
and violence, but the overwhelming theme is that of peace, tolerance
and love of fellow man. There is one instance of drug use, but only
as a reference to the liberal climate of the time. A.D.1973 the
movie has many references to the political and popular culture of
that period such as Vietnam, Watergate, women's rights, indigent
medical care, racism, school violence, integration of Schools and
forced busing. AD 1973 features muti-ethnic characters including
Italian, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Mexican, Irish, Afro American and
Jewish parts with dialog in Spanish, Italian and Yiddish.
The screenwriter
is a twenty year veteran of Film and Television production, as an
Art Director. He brings a unique view of production, that makes
this film a dream to shoot and edit. Simplicity is the key, as the
entire movie is written to facilitate the most economical types
of locations, equipment and Effects.
We are currently
seeking financing for our first film AD 1973, which is now in pre-production.
The script for the first of three films, is available for download.
